Join us for an artist talk with Tuomas A. Laitinen and curator Ilari Laamanen on Saturday Oct 31 at 2 pm at the gallery. The discussion will be in Finnish. No preregistration needed.
In the talk, Tuomas A. Laitinen and Ilari Laamanen will discuss Laitinen's artistic thinking and process with a special focus on Tuomas A. Laitinen and Kosen Ohtsubo's joint exhibition Mitate 見立て, on view at Helsinki Contemporary until November 22.
Tuomas A. Laitinen works across moving image, animation, light, sound, glass and installations. He often collaborates with different actors. In recent years, Laitinen has been working around questions of ecology, the extended mind, and processes of knowledge production. His works are often made with translucent materials in order to find ways to layer different epistemological systems. Laitinen’s works have been shown at Pioneer Works, NYC, 21st Biennale of Sydney, Avesta Art 2026 in Sweden, 7th Bucharest Biennale, Screen City Biennale 2019 in Stavanger, Norway, SADE LA (Los Angeles), Art Sonje Center (Seoul), Helsinki Contemporary, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma and EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, among other places.
Ilari Laamanen is a Curator of Exhibitions at Malva, Museum of Visual Arts in Lahti, Finland. Through his interdisciplinary projects he explores communication and body-mind relation in a technologically driven world. His most recent curatorial work at Malva includes the group exhibitions Strange Attraction (2025) and Transformations (2025). Earlier curatorial work includes Trance, the main exhibition of Tallinn Photomonth Contemporary Art Biennial (2023) and Alienation, the ninth Momentum Biennial in Moss, Norway (2017).
