Aki Turunen’s lithograph Comet in My Garden in collaboration with Stentrykkets Venner

Aki Turunen has created the annual lithograph for Stentrykkets Venner (Friends of the Stone Print), produced in collaboration with Litografisk Atelier in Valby, Copenhagen.

The seven-coloured lithographic work titled Comet in My Garden deals with the feeling of infatuation—not necessarily romantic one, but the sudden pull toward a person, an environment, a cuisine, or an object. The image draws on a wide range of pictorial sources: medieval manuscript illustrations, Islamic miniatures from Davids Samling in Copenhagen, and wallpapers from the Palazzo Chigi in Rome. These references accumulate, not as quotations, but as raw material for an image that is intuitive, densely populated, and alive with internal dialogue.

Comet in My Garden will be distributed to members of Stentrykkets Venner as part of their annual membership print 2026.

A limited edition of prints is also available at Helsinki Contemporary.

Founded in 1994, Stentrykkets Venner is a Danish association dedicated to preserving and promoting the traditional art of stone lithography. The association supports the lithographic studio Litografisk Atelier in Valby, one of Denmark’s foremost workshops for the craft, which has produced work with artists such as Per Kirkeby, Tal R., and Martin Kippenberger.
