Gavin Turk

Gavin Turk (b. 1967, Guildford) is a British artist whose sculptures and installations deal with issues authorship, authenticity and identity. Breaking of the myths of the artist attached to modernism and avant-garde art movements are one of the occurring themes in Turk’s practice. Turk gained public’s awareness as part of the infamous Young British Artists group piloted by Charles Saatchi. The YBA phenomenon put at the time young and upcoming artists, such as Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin, into the limelight in the 1980’s and 1990’s. In 2007, Turk with his partner established The House of Fairy Tales, a children's arts charity based in London, that exists to engage with young people of all ages from any socio-economic, cultural and religious background by providing imaginative learning environments.
